Has knowledge of bibliographic utilities' and local system's search strategies, navigation methods, and commands
Operates Ariel software, or its equivalent - library to library electronic document delivery software
Checks lending policies of other institutions (e.g., in OCLC's Name-Address Directory)
Verifies information in requests; asks for further information as necessary if request is incomplete
Verifies citations using appropriate bibliographic utilities
Understands legal citations; uses appropriate helps such as Bieber's
Determines appropriate method for filling requests
Confirms availability of materials
Creates on-line requests via online bibliographic utility
Updates records in bibliographic utility as items are shipped, received, or returned
Prepares and sends written ALA forms when online service is not available with a given lender or borrower
Operates copiers, microform reader/printers, and fax machines, postage machine, etc.
Prepares materials for mailing (checks in/out, packs, ships)
Adheres to timetable established by bibliographic utility and lending or borrowing library:

As a lender, follows up on overdue materials and invoices;
As a borrower, ensures that materials are returned on time

Follows copyright guidelines when obtaining or sending materials
Maintains accurate records and reports statistics in a meaningful way
Generates various reports from local system
Tracks activity via monthly reports from OCLC and other vendors
Clears all document delivery requests through CCC or appropriate publisher
Sets up and maintains accounts with document delivery sources
Processes invoices and payments
