JUSTICE IS COMING
By Marcus A. Finefrock

We live in a society that does not know right from wrong. This disease is nothing new to the world, but seems to take on a whole new meaning when it reaches the higher echelons of society. Lies and distortions of the truth seem to be commonplace. Even the highest office in the country, the Presidency, is not immune.
People try to rationalize their actions instead of making an effort to repair what is wrong in their lives. Capitol Hill spinsters point fingers and swap tales about how previous Presidents got away with much more than the public knew at the time. Out come analogies of the Watergate break-in or Kennedy's indiscretions.
However, what are the ramifications of such statements? What happens to the principle of being responsible for your actions? What happens to accountability? Do these analogies strengthen our Country and teach an important lesson to our young people? Or does it embarrass and weaken a nation?
Another popular argument seems to be that the public should stay out of a public figure's private life. But perjury always is a public matter and the President has made a decision to enter a life of public service and knows the consequences of such a decision.

This Country and its citizens are much too precious. The President makes an oath under God to uphold and preserve the Constitution and the laws of the United States. We have too much to lose. Any person in a position with that much authority needs accountability. There needs to be checks and balances so there are not abuses. It is common sense and it is the law.

For someone to attack the role of Independent Counsel would be to attack the laws of this Land and violate needed checks and balances. These attacks are misguided due to the fact that Judge Starr is only performing his legal duties. The Independent Counsel law was passed by a bi-partisan Congress and signed by President Clinton.

In the midst of all the hub-bub of the Lewinsky scandal, Americans tend to forget we live in dangerous times. Presently, there is a crisis in Asia, rapid decline in Japan's financial market, depression in Hong Kong, conflict with terrorists in the Middle East, Russia's leadership is soon to be changing hands, and China has resources to start building nuclear weapons given to them by the Clinton administration. This is no time for America to take its proverbial Òeye off the ball.Ó We should be working towards good rather than bad, raising the bar instead of lowering it, focusing on winning instead of rationalizing and accepting failure as the norm. America should be focusing on fixing its problems rather than covering them up.

The virgin has been raped and the village has been pillaged. Worse yet, the marauders are allowed to parade through the streets, pointing their fingers in our face, continuing to disgrace the nation. The time is now for Americans to rightfully claim what is theirs. The time is now for Americans to demand that government reflect the best of society, not the worst. The time is now for Americans to stand up and demand the truth from Bill Clinton. The time is now Mr. President. Justice is coming.
